Teaching Plan for

Success With English, Book Eight,

Module Four   Stories and Fables

By Asura Muk 麦毅敏

from Xiguanpeizheng Primary Schol

1.     Analysis of the students and teaching content:

The pupils of Class 2, Grade 6 are active in English learning. They have learnt something on the Simple Past Tense. But sometimes they skip the “ed” in the verbs. They can speak a little English, but they often change Chinese into English directly. They are eager to play an important role in class, they are still learning how to cooperate with the others.

The teaching content in this lesson is based on Module Four Stories and Fables. The students will complete the task through great cooperation with each other actively to promote their knowledge of languages. To forwardly their practice in clad, before the lesson, I’ve got the students to prepare for it. And I let them create the fable to actively apply English in expression on the fable “The Fox and The Crow”, and raise awareness of culture differences and similarities in the arrangement in the China and the UK/USA.

The language in this lesson focus on the sentence patterns,  “One day… met…”, “Then… “, “He got a good idea!”, “At last….”. In the end the students will finish a poster / story-book in group of four in class.

In this lesson, I want to expose the students to more stories, give the students reading, listening and writing practice, and to provide practice in telling and writing stories. Hopefully, during practice, the students can develop their imagination and creativity and have fun in English learning.

Feedback

The children have great passion in learning during the class. Not only because of the topic is so familiar and funny to them, but also the learning procedures – act out the fable “Waiting For Another Hare” and “The Lion and The Mouse”, create the new fable “The Monkey and The Tiger”, discuss before making the poster…, give them a strong impetus to study. After the class, most of the posters and story-books they made were really excellent, and some of them even made the PPT for the fable. I found it is a good way to give children of Grade Six different ways to finish their homework. It motivates them to go further in English learning.

But it was a pity that as usual I could not let all the students accomplish the last learning task within the allotted time.
